Why Whole Foods Are A Critical Part of a Cancer Patients Diet

More than ever, it is important for cancer patients to have a diet that will help boost and maintain your health. Certain foods may seem like they have all the essential vitamins and nutrients you need, but that’s not often the case once you read beyond the packaging. With a little more research, you can discover that there is minimal, if not any, actual whole plant phytonutrients are in many products that claim to have.

The only way to get your daily needed nutrients is to get them directly from the source. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the easiest way to get that daily nutrition for not just cancer patients, but also anyone who wants a well-balanced diet. They are loaded with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which can help protect against cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses.

Whole foods, especially cruciferous vegetables, berries, and mushrooms, play crucial roles in a cancer patient's diet. They are responsible for eliminating inflammation and oxidative stress while boosting immune function. Since cancer patients are at a higher risk of infection, especially during treatment, the lack of whole plant phytonutrients will disable their immune system to function poorly. While there is a diverse range of cruciferous vegetables out there, some of the most popular include broccoli, cauliflower, and kale. The compound associated in cancer prevention for cruciferous foods is called glucosinolates; upon ingestion, it breaks down to isothiocyanates and indoles, which correlates to lowering the risk of cancer.

Many berries like strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries are all considered superfoods because they are loaded with antioxidants and an essential key to help prevent cancer. Cancer-fighting agents such as anthocyanosides and resveratrol can both be found in these delicious yet very nutritious fruits. Our immune system is strong, but with the wrong types of care, it will start to deteriorate over time and get weak.

We are not saying your diet should be limited to just fruits and vegetables, but we want you to make sure that the products you are consuming have real whole foods as their ingredients and to be cautious of what exactly is in your food. Preservatives are used in many products to help retain the longevity of the food, but will oftentimes lead to the loss of more than half of a product’s nutritional value before they even reach the shelves on your grocery store.

HEAL is great because the only ingredients we have are REAL Whole Foods. We believe in providing nutrients straight from the source without any added products without any unnatural preservatives or artificial enhancements. While many meal replacement products come in a liquid form, we choose to offer HEAL as a powder. Our reasoning is simple: it’s to ensure that all the nutrients from our plants are preserved by freeze drying them and directly given to our customers in one big nutrient-filled tub.
